Joe Allnut Sports Therapist |
In 2004 Joe completed his degree with honours in Sports Therapy at the university of Chichester and is fully registered with the society of sports therapists. As part of his postgraduate study he has also completed courses in biomechanics, podiatry and sports specific injury management.
His interest in sport developed at an early age in Basingstoke when playing a range of sports including cricket, football, athletics and cycling. It was this exposure to sport and the injuries it lead to which sparked his enthusiasm in Sports Therapy.
Joe has a structural approach to musculo-skeletal problems and strongly believes patient education is a key part of the rehabilitation process. Research shows that understanding the cause and mechanism of your own pain is just as important as the treatment received.
Academically, Joe is part of the lecturing team at Basingstoke College of Technology teaching the ITEC Sports Massage course whilst occasionally guest lecturing and the University of Chichester.
Outside clinical and academic therapy Joe has worked with a range of sports teams. As an undergraduate he worked with Hampshire County Cricket Club 1st team, an experience which saw him help some of the worlds best sportsmen back to full fitness. Since 2005 Joe has continued in professional sport as the principle sports therapist to the Basingstoke Bison ice hockey team. Management of this range of professional athletes is a tool he frequently draws upon during his clinical work.
